WEIRTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Weirton man accused of killing a woman has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Media outlets report that Leslie Arnold Jr. pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 51-year-old Tonia Garan. He had been facing a murder charge.

Arnold also pleaded guilty in Hancock County Circuit Court to robbery. He was sentenced to life in prison with mercy and will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.

Police found Garan’s body wrapped in garbage bags in a closet in Arnold’s apartment in December 2013. Officers went to the apartment while investigating the robbery of another woman.

The state medical examiner’s office said two of Garan’s neck bones were snapped.
