Head-on crash kills 2 in southeast Kansas

PARSONS, Kan. (AP) - A head-on collision on a southeast Kansas highway has left both drivers dead.

The Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 59, a few miles north of Parsons.

The patrol says a northbound SUV crossed the center line and struck a southbound car. The SUV driver was identified as 64-year-old Timothy Schartz, of Altamont. The car was driven by 41-year-old Misty Chalker, of Parsons.

Investigators said they couldn’t determine if either driver wore a seat belt.
