SEVERANCE, Colo. (AP) - A northern Colorado man faces animal cruelty charges for allegedly tying two sheep to a tree to win back a woman’s affections.

The (Greeley) Tribune reports that 42-year-old William Brent Allen of Severance allegedly left the animals without food or water outside his residence (https://bit.ly/Ud4EfK ). One of the sheep was strangled to death due to the way it was tied up.

The sheep belonged to a woman Allen had dated for several months. Allen allegedly took the animals, then sent the woman text messages about them. According to the affidavit, Allen said he would tie up the sheep at a bar if she did not meet with him.

Allen is free on a $7,000 bond and faces two misdemeanor cruelty charges.
