AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A veteran Texas Panhandle sheriff’s deputy has died after collapsing during a law enforcement training exercise.

Services are scheduled Wednesday in Amarillo for Potter County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Paul Buckles. He was 57.

Capt. John Coffee says Buckles, who’d been with the department for 26 years, collapsed during training last Friday. Coffee says Buckles was transported to an Amarillo hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials did not immediately release a cause of death. A message left Wednesday with a justice of the peace was not immediately returned.
