NEW YORK (AP) - Race walker Erin Taylor-Talcott and USA Track and Field recently reached an agreement on equal prize money for women in the 50-kilometer event.

USATF awarded prize money at national events to male racers. The International Association of Athletic Federations contests only men’s events at that distance, which Taylor-Talcott wants to change.

Taylor-Talcott will earn $7,000 as the top female finisher at the 50K championships in November. In a statement through her Winston & Strawn attorneys, she said, “This gives a powerful voice to myself and all women who have been treated unfairly.”

USATF spokeswoman Jill Geer said: “When Erin brought to our attention that we did not offer prize money for women in the 50k race walk domestically, we agreed with her that we should have equitable prize money.”
