BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge teen has been indicted in the Feb. 11 fatal shooting of another teen in a dispute over a woman.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1i63U1e ) 18-year-old Jamal Variste is accused of shooting Devonta Jenks, also 18, in a fit of jealousy outside an apartment complex in north Baton Rouge.
On Wednesday, an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicted Variste on a second-degree murder charge.
Police say Variste allegedly confronted Jenks because he was jealous of Jenks’ relationship with a woman who lived at the apartment complex.
Jenks, who was shot in the chest, ran a short distance and collapsed on a sidewalk outside the complex, where he died.
Variste faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison if found guilty of second-degree murder.
