RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Nell J. Redfield Foundation has pledged $2 million in support for a new student achievement center at the University of Nevada, Reno.

University officials announced the gift Wednesday for the William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center. The 78,000 square-foot building on the site of the former Getchell Library will bring together various student services currently scattered across campus.

Construction is scheduled to start this summer with completion in 2016.

The total cost is estimated at $44.5 million.

The William N. Pennington Foundation made a $6 million lead gift to name the center, representing half of the $12 million in philanthropic support the university is seeking.

Another $21 million will come from student capital improvement fees and $11 million from the university.
