FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Free public tours are being offered this summer at Poker Flat Research Range north of Fairbanks.

Poker Flat is the only non-federal university owned rocket range in the world. The range is owned and operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute.

The range is used for launching rockets and performing satellite tracking. It also is home to a growing fleet of drones.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (https://is.gd/ClLXTR) says the hour-long tours will be offered on Thursdays, beginning June 12 and running through July 17.

The tours begin at 2 p.m., and arriving visitors are asked to check in at the range’s administration building.
