SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The executive director of Gov. Gary Herbert’s economic development office is stepping down to form a private investment firm.

Herbert’s office announced Thursday that Spencer P. Eccles will stay on for several weeks as the Governor’s Office of Economic Development transitions to a new director.

A replacement has not yet been named.

Eccles joined the office five years ago and has led the state’s efforts to court businesses and economic development in the state.

Herbert has asked Eccles to continue to advise the governor as part of an advisory team.
