JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville sheriff’s officer has fatally shot a shooting suspect after a car chase.

Officials told The Florida Times-Union (https://bit.ly/1p941y9 ) that Jacksonville officers were called to an apartment Wednesday night after a shooting. When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect - later identified as 28-year-old Thomas Dewitt Johnson - had fled. Officer James Busque spotted Johnson’s car about two miles away and tried to stop it, but Johnson sped away. Busque eventually used his patrol car to stop the Johnson’s car.

Officials say the Johnson got out of the car and pointed a gun at Busque, who fired four shots, killing Johnson.

Before his encounter with police, officials say Johnson shot and wounded 39-year-old Mario Perez, who is recovering at a nearby hospital.
