HUNTERTOWN, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a man has died after the van he was driving crashed into a retention pond along a highway near Fort Wayne.

Allen County sheriff’s Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel says a woman called 911 early Thursday saying that she was following a co-worker’s van when it suddenly crossed the median of Indiana 3 in Huntertown and drove into the pond in front of a church.

Tinkel tells WANE-TV (https://bit.ly/1nRo9Ya ) that emergency crews were able to reach the man but he was likely underwater for about 15 minutes. The man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The van with logos for a janitorial company was almost completely submerged after the crash a few miles north of Fort Wayne.

Tinkel says it is unclear what caused the crash.
