MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - Marshalltown is having a difficult time hiring a fire chief.

The Times-Republican reports (https://bit.ly/SdgC7n ) the central Iowa city has been seeking to fill the position since last fall, when the Fire Chief Steve Edwards retired.

Scott Johnson has been serving as acting fire chief and applied for the position.

City Administrator Randy Wetmore says 12 people applied when the city first advertised for the job last fall, but officials couldn’t find the right person from that group.

The city is again advertising for the position, and Wetmore says officials hope to interview applicants in July and make a hire by September.

The job will pay from $79,000 to $94,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
