ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama NAACP is planning a march Saturday in Alexander City over the shooting death of Emerson Crayton Jr. by a police officer.

State President Bernard Simelton says the march will denounce the report of a Tallapoosa County grand jury that found no fault by the police officer. The grand jury’s findings were based on a review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.

Crayton got into an argument with an employee at an Alexander City restaurant on March 8 and was shot outside the restaurant. Police said the shooting occurred when he tried to run over an officer. District Attorney E. Paul Jones says the grand jury exonerated the officer.

Simelton says Crayton was innocent, and the march at 11 a.m. Saturday will stress that.
