ROUND LAKE, N.Y. (AP) - Helicopter pilots with New York’s Army National Guard and the State Police are training to fight wild fires.

Exercises conducted Wednesday at Round Lake Municipal Airport included Blackhawk and Bell Huey helicopters equipped with giant water buckets used to douse fires.

State forest rangers also took part in the exercises.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation says wild fires impact thousands of acres in New York every year.
