MARION, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a 7-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck by a utility truck and was flown to a central Ohio hospital.

State Highway Patrol Sgt. Rich Logsdon tells The Marion Star (https://ohne.ws/1kCZxPp ) that the boy and his mother were riding near their home Thursday afternoon when the child veered and was struck.

Logsdon says the boy was responsive at the scene. He says it didn’t appear the boy was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred near Marion, about 45 miles northwest of Columbus.

The injured boy was flown to a Columbus hospital.

The driver of the truck had tried to break before hitting the boy.

The driver wasn’t hurt. The newspaper says he declined to comment at the scene.
