ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - New York state transportation officials say a short stretch of Route 9 in the Adirondacks has been closed because of a failing culvert.

The Department of Transportation says Thursday that a section of the road is closed in the hamlet of New Russia in the Essex County town of Elizabethtown, 110 miles north of Albany.

The DOT says crews are checking the damaged culvert and coming up with a repair plan. No reopening date has been determined yet.

The agency says an average of 677 vehicles use that stretch of Route 9 daily.

The road closure is about six miles north of the intersection of Route 9 and Route 73, near Exit 30 of Interstate 87, the Adirondack Northway.

Detours around the closed section are being set up.
