RENO, Nev. (AP) - A federal grand jury has indicted the owner of a Reno shooting range and federally licensed firearm dealer on charges he illegally sold handguns and machine guns to undercover agents.

ATF agents say they started investigating 59-year-old James Harwin in March when he was selling firearms at a gun show at the Reno Convention Center. They say he later sold them four machine guns at his Safe Shot Indoor Shooting Range in south Reno after grinding the serial numbers off some of them.

A U.S. magistrate ordered him held Tuesday without bail after authorities removed 68 guns and gun parts from his home.

Harwin faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted of five counts, including illegal sales and possession of a firearm without a serial number. Court records indicate he’s in the process of hiring an attorney.
