TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Fire officials have increased fire and smoking restrictions in southern Arizona because of ongoing dry weather.

The stricter restrictions took effect Thursday in all districts of the Coronado National Forest and memorial, Saguaro National Park, Casa Grande Ruins National Monument and several others. Building and maintain a campground are now prohibited in both developed campgrounds and improvised ones. Smoking is also not allowed unless inside a car or building, and firing a gun is prohibited unless a person has a hunting license.

Violating the rules could result in a misdemeanor charge.

Temperatures were in the triple digits all week.
