WILTON, Maine (AP) - Wilton officials are seeking a contractor to clean the yard of a homeowner who has failed to obey a court order to get rid of the appliances, scrap and motor vehicles littering his lawn.
The town will send Duane Pollis a bill when the job is done.
Pollis was convicted of violating state and local laws. He was the first person to be fined for violating a property maintenance ordinance narrowly passed last year, which allows a minimum fine of $100 per day for violations. Pollis faces fines of $9,500.
Pollis has told the Kennebec Journal (https://bit.ly/Uel47O ) there is a purpose for everything in his yard, so he shouldn’t be obligated to clean it up. He says he can’t afford the cleanup and the town is picking on him.
