METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Authorities say a woman was hurt when she was thrown from a boat that hit the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.

Bridge General Manager Carlton Dufrechou tells NOLA.com/The Times Picayune (https://bit.ly/1pM5ixC) the northbound side of the bridge was closed for a short time after a 21-foot fiberglass boat hitting southbound bridge.

Dufrechou says the boat, carrying five people, was traveling west at about 10:15 a.m. Friday and crossed beneath the northbound span about a mile from the south shore. As it was moving beneath the southbound span, he says the boat hit a piling and at least two people were tossed out of the boat.

He said the extent of the woman’s injuries was not immediately available.
