CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Carlsbad Caverns National Park is implementing fire restrictions because of the hot, dry weather.

Park officials are banning open flames and grilling in the park. Smoking is allowed only within an enclosed vehicle or building and vehicles can’t be parked on dry grass or vegetation.

Superintendent Doug Neighbor reminds visitors that weather forecasts are predicting very hot temperatures and extremely dry conditions, which he says are the perfect combination for an easy start to a wildfire.

The park remains open under regular summer hours .
