BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Burlington Fire Department has come to the aid of a 23-foot unoccupied boat that was sinking at a pier on Lake Champlain.

The Wellcraft boat was docked at a rented slip at Perkins Pier and was 95 percent submerged Friday morning, resting on the bottom of the lake. Security personnel saw the boat taking on water at about 6 a.m.

Firefighters estimate fewer than 30 gallons of fuel was released from the 35-gallon fuel tank. The spill was contained to the marina.

The boat owner contracted with a materials cleanup contractor and a private dive company to salvage the boat. The boat was raised to the service at about 10:30 a.m.

Authorities suspect the cause of the incident was the failure of a bellows seal.

No one was hurt.
