MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Prosecutors in suburban Atlanta say a former real estate agent has been sentenced to 20 years for stealing jewelry and other valuables from homes that were on the market in 2012.

Cobb County prosecutors said Thursday that 49-year-old Ray Glen Greene of Englewood, Florida used a key code to enter metro Atlanta homes to steal jewelry and other items.

Prosecutors say Greene also targeted the home of a county police captain and stole a wedding band. Authorities say the ring was recovered after the captain’s wife died of a brain aneurism.

Greene is ordered to serve eight years of his sentence in prison and pay more than $29,000 in restitution. Greene is also ordered to surrender his real estate license and may not enter homes when the homeowner isn’t present.
