BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities in northwestern Arizona say a man has been arrested in connection with a 1997 unsolved homicide case in Bullhead City.

Police in Bullhead City say 54-year-old Matthew Gibson is being held in a Holbrook jail awaiting extradition to Mohave County.

They say Gibson drove from North Carolina and turned himself in to authorities Thursday.

Bullhead City police were called to the Colorado River near Rotary Park after a woman’s body was found in the bushes on July 1, 1997.

An autopsy revealed 38-year-old Barbara Leone Brown of Kingman suffered multiple blunt-force trauma and skull fractures.

Winslow police say Gibson came to their department and insisted he had killed a woman between 1994 and 1997.

Bullhead City police interviewed Gibson and say details he provided coincided with the Brown case.
