NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been arrested and faces charges of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old Vermont girl.

Police say 24-year-old Jesse LaFountain was arrested in North Adams on Wednesday by local police acting on a request from Bennington, Vermont, police.

The Berkshire Eagle (https://bit.ly/1j5Py15 ) reports that LaFountain is being held without bail on a fugitive charge while he awaits transfer to Vermont.

The Vermont Department for Children and Families notified police last month that a 14-year-old girl alleged she had being sexually assaulted numerous times by LaFountain when she was 11.

The girl told police LaFountain also punched her in the stomach because he thought she was pregnant.

LaFountain told police he didn’t remember any sexual activity. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
