PITTSBURGH (AP) - A man charged with bringing a gun into the county courthouse in Pittsburgh says he didn’t realize it was illegal because he owns the weapon and has a license for it.

Forty-six-year-old Golan Barak says an Allegheny County security officer alerted sheriff’s deputies when he told her he had the gun in his bag that was passing through an X-ray machine at the courthouse entrance Friday morning.

Barak says he didn’t see a sign saying weapons were prohibited and wasn’t trying to sneak in the weapon, which is why he told the guard he had it with him.

Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus says and 9mm pistol was loaded.

Kraus says Barak was released and will be mailed a court summons.

Barak told deputies he was making payments on properties he recently bought at sheriff’s sale.
