STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - A 46-year-old Stamford man is dead after police say he was shot at close range in the back of the head.

Police have not released the victim’s name, but tell the Stamford Advocate (https://bit.ly/1rQHomp ) he was clearly targeted by the gunman on Thursday night outside a market in the city’s South End.

The shooting occurred on Pacific Street at about 8:30 p.m. Police say the gunman walked up behind the victim and fired a single shot before fleeing down Ludlow Street. No arrests have been made.

Police say it is the first homicide in Stamford since April 2013.
