URBANA, Ill. (AP) - About 200 people turned out at the University of Illinois to rededicate the campus’ beloved Alma Mater statue.

Chancellor Phyllis Wise spoke at Friday’s ceremony along with Jean Taft Bandler. She is the daughter of statue sculptor Loredo Taft.

June 11 is also the statue’s 85th anniversary. It was dedicated in 1929.

The statue was removed in 2012 for restoration and returned in early April.

Students and others regularly take pictures of themselves and friends and family with the Alma Mater.
