HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - A 22-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child abuse in the overdose death of her boyfriend’s 3-year-old niece in a Livingston County home.

WHMI-FM and the Livingston County Press & Daily Argus of Howell report that Chelsie Marme made the plea Friday, but could withdraw it if a judge exceeds a sentencing cap recommended by prosecutors.

Marme and 24-year-old Jared Brock were babysitting last August in Handy Township when the girl is believed to have swallowed a Suboxone pill belonging to Brock. Suboxone is used to treat opiate addiction.

Brock and Marme didn’t take the girl to a hospital or tell the girl’s grandmother what happened. The girl died that night.

Marme’s sentencing is July 17. Brock faces the same charges.
