IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Those in eastern Iowa looking to dispose of hazardous household waste can do so safely this weekend.

A mobile household hazardous waste collection event has been set for Saturday at the East Side Recycling Center in Iowa City. The collection, sponsored by the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. There is no cost to participate.

Residents of Iowa City, Johnson County, Kalona and Riverside may dispose of one box of household hazardous waste per household. That waste includes oil-based paint, household cleaners, non-alkaline batteries such as rechargeable or cellphone batteries, sharps, motor oil and other automotive fluids.

No latex paint will be accepted.
