JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Hinds County supervisors have honored a Jackson police officer for his role in rescuing children from the balcony of a burning building.

WLBT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1nKLsmE) Officer James Edwards received the county’s Above and Beyond Award during the Board of Supervisors meeting earlier this week.

Edwards was dispatched to the scene of a fire at the Melrose Apartments several weeks ago.

Officials say he caught several children who were tossed to him from the balcony of the burning building.
