KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Knoxville police officer is injured and a suspect is dead after a morning confrontation in East Knoxville.

Knoxville Police Deputy Chief Gary Holliday said an officer responding to a domestic dispute at about 7 a.m. saw the suspect and began chasing him.

The foot chase ended in the woods, where the suspect pulled a gun and began shooting. The officer was hit once in the arm and once in his bullet-proof vest.

A second officer arrived at the scene and commanded the suspect to surrender. When the suspect pulled a second gun, the officers fired and killed the suspect.

Holliday said the injured officer is in good condition.

Holliday declined to immediately release the names of the suspect or the officers.

The shooting was first reported by WATE-TV.
