LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - A 29-year-old man wounded in a shootout with a Longmont police officer has been sentenced to 72 years in prison.

The Longmont Times-Call reports (https://bit.ly/1ja0daM ) Jonathan Shank was sentenced Friday for the May 22, 2013, shootout with officer Brent Cairns. Shank previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault.

Prosecutors say Cairns pulled over a car Shank was driving because the vehicle’s headlights were off. Shank then got out of his car and fired a semi-automatic rifle at the officer, who returned fire. Cairns was not hurt, even though Shank fired 23 rounds.

Police say Shank’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit for driving.
