PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a woman is facing a manslaughter charge for allegedly driving drunk, causing a man’s death in a collision.

Police spokesman James Holmes says 33-year-old Michelle Nicole Ayers was speeding in a Chevy Blazer on Cactus Road near 40th Street around 1:30 a.m. when she rear-ended a Ford Expedition.

Holmes says the Expedition went off the road and struck a block wall and a tree.

He says the Expedition driver, 47-year-old Christopher James Kutcher, was critically injured and later pronounced dead.

Authorities say Ayers showed signs of impairment. Preliminary tests show she had a blood-alcohol level that was more than three times the legal limit.

Ayers has since been booked on one count of manslaughter. It was not immediately known if she had an attorney.
