DENVER (AP) - A University of Colorado-Denver police officer who shot a man at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora has been cleared of wrongdoing.

The Denver Post reports (https://bit.ly/1jahjWh ) Sgt. John Hughes fired two shots at 50-year-old Joseph Gorden, but an autopsy revealed the man committed suicide.

Police were called to the campus March 19 after Gorden threatened suicide. Adams County District Attorney Dave Young, who cleared Hughes, says the officer saw Gorden raise what appeared to be a handgun, heard a gunshot and saw a muzzle flash, then fired. The officer fired a second time when he saw Gorden raise his arm again.

While Hughes’ shots struck Gorden, an autopsy determined the fatal wound came from a point-black shot to the chest that had been fired by Gorden’s revolver.
