PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A junior at West Linn High School student has been named the first Rose Festival queen from outside Portland.

Seventeen-year-old Emma Aubrey Waibel received her crown at the Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.

The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1tUeHAG ) that Waibel is director of the Sparrow Club, which assists children in medical crisis, a varsity cheerleader, outdoor school counselor and was the sophomore class president.

The Rose Festival has been selecting a queen since 1908, according to its website. She represents Portland and the Rose Festival for one year at appearances around the country and abroad.
