RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Rapid City woman has been sentenced to five years in prison after the truck she was driving under the influence crashed into the Rapid City Creek in February, killing her husband.

Twenty-six-year-old Sara Keyte was driving Feb. 13 while her husband, Donald Van Norman, slept in the back seat of the couple’s pick-up truck. The Rapid City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1uAHRXN ) the 27-year-old Van Norman was thrown from the vehicle.

He died the next day at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Keyte requested a probationary sentence with dependency treatment and counseling.

Circuit Judge Thomas Trimble stuck with the original plea deal. Keyte will have to serve at least two years before she is eligible for parole.
