HOUSTON (AP) - A man and a woman found dead inside a crashed vehicle in Houston may have stolen it and been fleeing its owner.

Houston Police Sgt. F.J. Briones told the Houston Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1pqNzt8 ) the driver lost control, hit a curb and struck a tree on Friday evening. It appeared the car’s owner and a friend were looking for it.

Danny McCampbell, who was questioned by police, said his car had been taken minutes earlier when he stopped at a nearby gas station. McCampbell said he did not know who the driver was.

Briones said the car had not been reported stolen. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

Witnesses told police the car was travelling about 60 mph, twice the speed limit in the residential neighborhood.
