ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Weather officials say New Mexico is getting peppered with extreme weather on a weekend that has already seen rain, hail and even tornadoes.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation reports a stretch of I-25 near the Ft. Union rest area, just north of Las Vegas, was covered in hail Sunday afternoon. Crews are plowing it but driving conditions are being described as difficult.

Residents on Saturday afternoon reported heavy rain and pea-sized hail falling on downtown Santa Fe.

Meanwhile, forecasters say there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms in Albuquerque.

Authorities in Clovis reported Friday that two tornadoes briefly touched down. Meteorologists say there was a 78 mph wind gust and three-quarter of an inch of rain.

But no injuries or significant damage were reported.
