CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Cranston’s police department plans to use a $15,000 state grant to revive its motorcycle unit.

The city applied for the grant in April. Officials plan to accept the money Monday during a ceremony with House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello at police headquarters.

The department says it will use the grant to buy two 2014 Harley Davidson Police Electra Glide motorcycles and train the officers who will ride them.

The department says it hopes to deploy the motorcycles this summer. It has been without a motorcycle unit since the mid-1980s.
