EDWARDS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a former Jackson police officer has died in a motorcycle accident.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry tells The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/1ifzqtA ) 49-year-old Richard “Fitz” Polk was riding his motorcycle on Highway Mississippi 22 just east of I-20 near Edwards when a van turned into his path around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Henry says Polk was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger, Della Brumfield, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Henry identified the driver of the van as 70-year-old Doris Stamps.

He says Brumfield was still in a local hospital Sunday with broken bones. Stamps had minor injuries but was treated and released.

The accident remains under investigation.
