LAKEHURST, N.J. (AP) - Police say a Lakehurst man is recovering from serious injuries he sustained when he fell on railroad tracks.

Police say 18-year-old Matthew Nyhammer was returning from a track meet when he took a short cut on the tracks behind a post office on Saturday night.

Police Sgt. Ronald Heinzman tells the Asbury Park Press (https://on.app.com/1rYO5TH ) Nyhammer was sprinting to catch up with some friends when he fell and suffered serious leg and rib injuries.

Nyhammer was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
