MADISON, S.D. (AP) - The 102-year-old Prairie Village Opera House in Madison has been renovated, thanks to a $200,000 gift from an anonymous donor.

Manager Stan Rauch tells the Daily Leader (https://bit.ly/1tY1uqP ) that the money paid for upgrades ranging from new siding on the outside of the building to improved lighting on the inside.

An open house was held last week to celebrate the upgrades. More improvements are planned this summer. One room will be outfitted with a soda fountain and seating area, and another will house Lawrence Welk memorabilia. The famous bandleader who grew up in North Dakota performed in the Opera House.
