NATHITOCHES, La. (AP) - Goldman Thibodeaux was named the recipient of the Folklife Heritage Award, which recognizes an individual or organization for creating, promoting or maintaining Louisiana cultural traditions.

Northwestern State University’s Creole Heritage Center nominated Thibodeaux or the award.

The announcement was made during the recent Louisiana Culture Awards ceremony.

Loletta Wynder of the Creole Heritage Center says Thibodeaux was nominated for his promotion of Creole music, sometimes called LaLa music.

He has performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival and the Cane River Creole National Historical Park.
