DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit RiverWalk and Milliken State Park will be showcased by a new running and walking event.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Riverfront Run on June 14 features a 5K run and 10K walk.

It replaces the annual River Days Run and includes the popular RiverWalk and Milliken State Park on the route. Proceeds will benefit the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, a nonprofit that develops public access to the riverfront.

The race is expected to attract at least 1,000 runners. The Riverfront Run is part of the multiyear Live the Riverfront partnership between Blue Cross and the RiverFront Conservancy. Blue Cross is pledging $1 million to the program which encourages healthy and active lifestyles.
