OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Officials say Oakland Mayor Jean Quan was a driver in a minor traffic collision but wasn’t hurt, and her office is denying reports she was on the phone at the time.

Oakland police say Quan was one of two drivers in the crash at a West Oakland intersection Sunday.

The mayor’s spokesman Sean Maher tells the San Francisco Chronicle that Quan was driving her city-owned Lexus SUV between two church meetings when the other driver hit her from behind.

Witnesses including the other driver tell KRON-TV that Quan was talking on her mobile phone and wasn’t paying attention before the crash.

But Maher says the mayor “was absolutely not on the phone” and her phone records will show it.

Reached on the phone by KRON, the mayor said she was the one who was hit and was not at fault.
