CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Attorney General Patrick Morrisey says a telephone scam known as “spoofing” has been reported in several regions of the state.

Morrisey says numerous consumers in the Northern Panhandle and the Eastern Panhandle have reported receiving calls and seeing their own telephone numbers appear on caller ID. These calls also have been reported in North Central West Virginia.

Morrisey says many scammers use “spoofing” to lead people to believe that a call is legitimate.
