SHERWOOD, Ore. (AP) - Sherwood police said a man defending his own dog fatally stabbed an attacking pit bull.
Police said Aaron Shields told officers the attacking dog bit both him and his pet as they left their house Tuesday morning.
He said he tried to stop the attack but couldn’t, so he retreated to the house, grabbed a knife, tried again unsuccessfully to stop the pit bull and finally stabbed it until it stopped.
Shields was treated at the hospital, his dog by a veterinarian.
The pit bull’s owner, Jeremy Scott of Sherwood, was cited for having a dangerous dog. Police said the fine could be up to $500.
