HIGHLAND, Calif. (AP) - San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies have killed a man they say charged at them with a hatchet.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1gaMNc3 ) says deputies were sent to a home in Highland Wednesday morning by a report of two men fighting outside.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman says deputies found a severely injured man and another holding a hatchet. Bachman says the man with the hatchet was shot when he raised it and charged at deputies.

He died at a hospital. His name wasn’t immediately released.

The other man was treated for what are termed significant injuries.

There’s no word on what sparked the fight.
