MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Politicians are debating whether to merge the revenue and license commissioner offices in Mobile County.

The current license commissioner, Kim Hastie, supports the move and asked state Rep. David Session to sponsor legislation that would put the idea before voters. Hastie said combining the offices would improve efficiency.

She estimated that eliminating an elected official and cutting overtime and jobs would save $690,000 a year immediately and eventually up to $1 million.
